The International Court of Justice has issued an advisory ruling on case 186, “Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem”. As explained by the IMEU:

Today the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel is illegally occupying Palestinian land, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

The Court also ruled that Israel’s conduct amounts to racial segregation and apartheid, that its settlement expansion in the West Bank amounts to illegal annexation, and that other States that provide financial support to maintain Israel’s illegal occupation—which includes the United States—are under obligation to not render further aid or assistance.

In particular, the Court ruled that Israel’s settlements in the West Bank are “contrary to the prohibition of forcible transfer of the protected population under Article 49 of the 4th Geneva Convention.”
