Along the lines of the Guardian’s excellent January 30th multimedia report on Gaza’s destruction, “How war destroyed Gaza’s neighbourhoods”, today Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz published a similar piece, titled, “Gazans Fled Their Homes. They Have Nowhere to Return to”. The subheader adds, “‘It’s Mind-blowing’: 1.7 Million Palestinians Escaped Israel’s Bombardment of Gaza. Most of Their Homes Have Been Damaged or Destroyed”

The report is a multimedia production created, as with the Guardian’s report, from satellite imagery, and is headed with the above 10-second clip from drone footage of Gaza (overlaid on Ha’aretz’s website).

An important component of Ha’aretz’s article shows the progressive destruction of Gaza’s buildings in each of the four months since Israel’s war on Gaza began on October 7th. An animated map of Gaza shows the growing spread of bomb strike locations as the user scrolls. Below are four screenshots of end-of-month frames from the animation, click to enlarge and turn into a slideshow. Visit Ha’aretz to get the full animated effect.

A graphic circulating on social media shows the Guardian’s map alongside a UN map of the population areas in Gaza, forcing the same conclusion as Ha’aretz‘s feature title, that even if the war stopped, Gazans have nowhere left to live.
